Pinafore pattern and tutorial

Napling Reversible Pinafore Pattern

I've made a reversible dress!  It's quite perfect for my little Napling girls that would like something fabulous yet comfortable to wear, it even has a little space for their tails to peek through.

The pattern is designed to fit 7-8" dolls.

You will need two pieces of fabric about 10" x 7"
And two set of snaps or two buttons.

First download the pattern by clicking here.

The Pinafore is very easy to make, but if you happen to be new at sewing clothes stick with me and I will walk you through the steps.

First cut the pattern on the fold of fabric.  You will be cutting along the solid line, do not cut on the fold.  When you open the piece it will look like this.  You should have two pieces to make the reversible pinafore.

Place your fabric right sides together.

Sew all the way around the edge, using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Don't forget to leave an opening.  I always mark the space with pins.

Now turn the dress right side out through the space you've left open.

After turning the dress, press it with an iron and topstitch it.

I topstitch close to the edge, about 1/8" in making sure to close the opening that I used to turn.

You can attach the straps to the bib using snaps or buttons.  Another option is sewing the straps directly to the dress bib, the dress should slip on and off with out problem.

This is Payton, she might be an aspiring model.        She loves that her dress is reversible!

p.s.  I have drafted this particular pattern for my dolls but the cross back style of Pinafore is a traditional and common style.  I do not hold any claim to it.   Feel free to use the pattern however you would like!
